Main Attractions

Theth National Park
The village sits inside Theth National Park, a protected area covering lush forests, steep valleys, and high peaks. Trails lead to waterfalls, alpine lakes, and traditional shepherd huts. The park is ideal for half-day or full-day hiking adventures.

The Grunas Waterfall
A 30-minute hike from Theth village leads to the spectacular Grunas Waterfall. In spring, the snowmelt creates a strong cascade. In summer, the water flow is gentler but still beautiful. The path winds through forests and open meadows. Bring sturdy shoes, water, and a camera for this scenic walk.

The Blue Eye of Theth
This natural pool is fed by underground springs and has striking turquoise water. It is smaller than the famous Syri i Kaltër near Saranda but equally captivating. A short hike from the village center leads to the spring. Swimming is refreshing in summer, but the water is cold year-round.

Theth Church (Kisha e Thethit)
The 18th-century Orthodox church is a cultural landmark. Its stone architecture, painted icons, and simple design reflect traditional mountain craftsmanship. It is still active, and visitors can learn about local customs and religious traditions.

Lock-in Towers (Kulla)
Traditional Albanian stone towers are scattered around Theth. These towers were historically used for defense during blood feuds. Some are open to visitors, offering insight into mountain life in centuries past. The towers are small but full of history and local stories.

Hiking to Valbona Pass
The trail connecting Theth to Valbona Valley is one of Albania’s most famous hikes. It takes about 6–8 hours and passes rugged peaks, alpine meadows, and scenic viewpoints. Many hikers split the trek over two days to enjoy guesthouses along the way. This hike provides breathtaking views of the Albanian Alps and is perfect for adventurous travelers.

Practical Information for Visiting Theth

Plan at least 2–3 days to explore Theth properly. Summer and early autumn offer the best weather and access. The roads to Theth are rough and steep, so a 4×4 vehicle is recommended. Public transport is limited, so most travelers either drive or join guided tours from Shkodra or Tirana.

Local guesthouses provide accommodation, meals, and guidance for hiking trails. Bring comfortable shoes, warm layers (even in summer, mountain temperatures can drop), sun protection, water, and snacks. Mobile signal is limited in the valley, so plan accordingly.

Visitors can combine a trip to Theth with a visit to Valbona Valley, another Albanian Alps highlight. Together, they offer a complete experience of northern Albania’s wild landscapes, traditional culture, and breathtaking scenery.
